Over the years photography has been developing it has become an art form as there is a great amount of skill involved in capturing the perfect photograph. So appreciation for the form of art has started in the way of exhibitions, galleries, museums and annual events. There are many different types of exhibitions through out the world as different countries appreciate art in different ways. Below are how some of the different countries display their photography and how it has developed.

In the UK

In Britain the first gallery entirely devoted to the art was "The Photographers Gallery" opened in the 1970's. It is one of the most frequently visited galleries in the country as it has over half a million people visiting it every year. It shows the developments in photography from the early form to the modern contempary art photographs you tend to see being produced today.

The UK only has one annual photography festival each year held in Hereford this is the "Hereford Photography Festival". It was founded in 1989 and plays host to an array of photography art work from local artists and also work from all over the country. Unlike many exhibitions that just involve the work of professional photographers this festival tries to incorporate the work of amateurs and students as much as possible, as well as the professional work.

One of the main museums in the country is the National Museum of Photography Film and Television. It plays host to many displays of different forms of photography art from all over the country from an array of exhibitions are held there for various well known artists work. In total it houses over 3 million items including those from film and television including the first ever negative produced.

Other countries

France has one of the oldest photography museums devoted to the inventor of photography, Nicephore Niepce. It holds displays of some of the earliest photographs and camera equipment ever made. It is a place of interest both to those wanting to know more about the history of photography and the life work of Nicephore Niepce.

California museum of photography works very closely with the states university having a large display devoted to the students work. They host a selection of exhibit displays at different intervals throughout the year showing the vast variation of artwork from different artists from the city from students to professional artists.

In Italy's Florence is the Alinari Photographic Archive Museum, it has been developing photos since the 19th Century and they have started holding some of this photography work in its museum. At one point the museum held photographic work from the year 1914 - 1980 by many different photographers mainly from around the local area.

The Netherlands holds a photography festival each year it's the only international photography festival in the world, the Noorderlicht. The photography from this years exhibition is called "Another Asia" it's a display of Asia today through a series of around 700 portrait and landscape photos.
