Photography is a thriving industry in Britain. There are many different photographers specialising in different aspects of photography. To help you get familiar with the various associations we have compiled a list with some of the main associations of photography.
Association of PhotographersThe association of photographers (otherwise known as the AOP) is an association which aims to unite various photography guilds and bodies internationally.
With their collected resources the AOP work hard to safeguard individual photographer's rights and the industries in general. The AOP is a non-profit distributing trade association which works with various industry bodies and training institutions.
The AOP benefits its widely growing membership by exhibiting its work and providing information and support to its members.
British Institute of Professional PhotographyThe British Institute of Professional Photography (or BIPP for short) is an institution that represents and showcases thousands of talented photographers.
The BIPP has been formed to preserve the integrity of the photography profession. It aims are to help photographers develop their skills and to help people network with relevant associations.
The BIPP work with a selection of official bodies in the UK and overseas to help with important issues for the industry including copywriting photographer's work.
British Society of Underwater PhotographersThe British Society of Underwater Photographers (or BSoUP for short) has been established since 1967. BSoUP is a non profit organisation maintained by voluntary work.
BSoUP hold meetings each month with talks form recognised professionals of the industry. Regular publications are also distributed to members with articles relating to all aspects of underwater photography.
BSoUP also host monthly and annual competitions for members to showcase their photos.
Guild of PhotographersThe guild of photographers has been established since 1988 by renowned professional photographers Ian Gee and Roy Doorbar.
The guild's aim is to offer advice and support to established and novice professional photographers. The guild works as a network to assist its members. Any problems will be attempted to be tackled by the core members and can be referred to specialist members if a solution can't instantly be found.
The guild specialises in wedding and portrait photography but also has a substantial amassed knowledge which can be called on for guidance of all aspects of professional photography.
Bureau of Freelance PhotographersThe Bureau of Freelance Photographers (otherwise known as the BFP) has been established since 1965.
The BFP functions to provide established and aspiring freelance photographers with opportunities to have their photos distributed. Members will receive regular publications and can contact the bureau for professional advice.
The BFP also publish books and run courses to help develop the next generation of freelance photographers.
