With the technology behind cameras and other photography equipment it is more likely you will encounter some problem or another in the life of your camera. Here are some examples of problems that people have been experiencing for years now and suggestions that may help solve it:

When taking photographs with a flash the subjects in my photos often have "red eye", how can I stop this from happening?

This happens to many people when they need to use their flash on their camera and often ruins the photograph all together. It's where the light from the flash reflects off the person's retina making it appear red on the final photograph. To avoid this from happening you can use a piece of equipment that helps reduce the red eye by flashing once then again when the photo is being taken a second or so later this meaning the subjects pupil will be smaller reducing the amount of light that can be reflected back. Other than this you can ask for the person to turn slightly away from the camera.

My battery in my camera has corroded how can I clean the battery compartment with out damaging the camera?

You will have to remove all parts of the battery that is in the compartment you will then have to get some contact cleaner. Then you simply have to apply the cleaning fluid to a cotton bud and use it to clean the contacts, doing it gently but ensuring you have removed all the corroded bits of battery. Then if there is any fluid left in the compartment use a dry cotton bud wiping around the area to help speed up the drying process.

My camera will only take a couple of photographs then it won't work until I've left it for around 10 minutes, what could be causing this to happen?

This is more common in older cameras that still use lithium batteries, because their not very powerful they can take a couple of photographs then the battery will freeze and require around 10 minutes to recover before being able to take a few more. The only solution to this problem is to replace the batteries with more powerful ones take your camera into a camera shop and they will let you know the right kind of batteries for you to use.

My cameras auto rewind function didn't work when my camera reached the end of the film, how can I remove the film without damaging it?

You will have to find a room that is in complete darkness or block the windows in a room so no natural light can get through at all and switch the light off in the room as well. Once you have a suitable room you will have to open the back of the camera like you would normally. Then there would usually be a release button on the bottom of the camera this will release the spool holding the film in place. You then simply have to unwind the film off the spool being careful not to touch the centre of any part of the film, once you have it off you can wind it back into its case and put it in its film holder ready to be developed.

There are many things that can go wrong with your cameras today but with a lot of these problems there is a high chance it is a basic fault. You can find a lot of information on how to fix problems yourself online as it's a lot cheaper if you can complete the work yourself you just have to make sure you have all the correct equipment for whatever the job may be.
